Visiting Asia – What Not To Do
If you’re visiting Asia for the first time and you’re hoping to go on a couple of dates with Asian girls, there are some things that you may want to avoid doing. While they may seem totally normal in your culture, they may cause offence to your Asiandate, or at the very least, maybe looked down upon and will not set you off on the right footing. Here are five things to avoid doing on your first visit to Asia.
Public Displays of Affection when visiting Asia
While you might be tempted to shower your date in affection, be aware that PDAs (public displays of affection) are not common in Asian cultures. Depending upon the country that you’re visiting, they may even be illegal, so make sure you don’t go overboard in public. Holding hands may be okay, but save kissing and cuddling for your alone time!
Wearing shoes inside people’s homes
If you’re lucky enough to be invited into somebody’s home, make sure you remove your shoes at the entrance. At the very least, you should ask your host if they would like you to remove your shoes. It is considered extremely rude in many Asian cultures to walk into someone’s home wearing your shoes. You may even be asked to remove your shoes in certain cultures before entering places of worship or even restaurants. It’s a sign of respect and something you should be prepared to do when asked.
Playing with your food
If you’re not accustomed to using chopsticks and you are invited to at a specific meal, it’s good practice to at least try and use them. You can always request cutlery if you find it difficult, and your host won’t be offended. However, if you start playing with your food using the chopsticks, this may well cause offence, so be mindful that you should be humble while eating a meal that is prepared for you.
Underdressing in public
While not all of Asia is conservative, you should be aware of the cultural intricacies of the country that you are visiting. For example, regardless of how hot it may be, it would be totally inappropriate for you to walk down the street in an Indian city wearing nothing but swimming shorts and flip flops. If you’re visiting a hot Asian country and you aren’t used to the heat, invest in some loose-fitting clothes so you can be respectful while moving around in public.
Excessive drinking
While you may be drawn by the allure of some of Asia’s famous party destinations, if you’re hoping to make a good impression with an Asian woman, drinking excessively is likely to put them off. Excessive drinking in many Asian cultures is severely frowned upon and isn’t seen as a way of enjoying yourself like it is in many Western cultures. If you’re spending time with new friends on an evening out, or you’re going out on a date, be sure only to drink alcohol in moderation, or even not at all, as you don’t want to make the wrong impression with someone you are hoping to date.
